Choose an LED strip power supply as part of the full system

A power supply is not an accessory added after the strip is chosen. It must match the strip, controller, length, and the conditions where it will sit. Read the exact product documentation before connecting or replacing any part.

Record the strip and controller details

Start with the strip type, voltage statement, planned length, and controller. Then compare the power supply’s output information and load guidance with those parts. Do not match by connector alone. Do not assume two products are interchangeable because their names look similar.

Plan a safe location for the supply

Choose a location that matches the product’s instructions for ventilation, mounting, heat, and exposure. Leave room to inspect and replace the supply later. Do not seal it behind permanent trim without a planned access path.

Keep cables protected from pinch points, sharp edges, and moisture. Stop for damaged insulation, unusual heat, water ingress, or uncertain ratings.

Test before final mounting

Connect the planned strip, controller, and power supply in the full layout where practical. Check the first and last sections and the control behavior. Make one documented change at a time if the result is unstable.

Do not alter mains wiring or open electrical enclosures as a casual test. Use a qualified electrician when the installation goes beyond the product instructions and normal low-voltage assembly.
